Young dog trainer day
Young dog trainer day
This program is offered to children aged 8 to 14, accompanied by their family dog, who would like to learn the basics of dog training and how to become a responsible owner. The program is also offered to children who don't have a family dog, who dream of having one, or whose dog isn't suitable for the program. In these cases, the children will work with one of our dogs.
A maximum of 4 children are accepted each day, and a minimum of 2 participants is required for the day to take place. The children will work with several coaches depending on the activity, but will have a main chaperone who will be with them throughout the program.
Our specialized program incorporates various aspects of dog training, including obedience, agility, ratting sports, and scent detection. This program will follow the Estrie Canine Energy philosophy of building relationships, positive reinforcement, and respect. Participants will spend several hours each day working with their assigned dog or canine partner and will be encouraged to practice at home whenever possible. The dogs will be working hard throughout the day, so it's important for us to schedule breaks. In the mornings, participants will enjoy dog-free workshops where they will make dog biscuits, collars, tags, bowls, and more. In the afternoons, a more theoretical workshop will be offered where we will discuss and demonstrate different dog breeds, canine communication, how dogs' noses work, and much more!
* Activities will also be determined based on the breeds of dogs present.
We hope to be able to teach, encourage and help young coaches discover a passion!

IMPORTANT :
Ensuring your dog is well-conditioned to the crate and/or enclosure is a good idea, even essential! Here are some important points to practice beforehand:
- The cage should be kept in a well-traveled area of the house, so as not to isolate the dog.
- At first, you can attract the dog with treats or toys and feed your dog in its crate so that it associates this place with pleasant experiences.
- Put the dog in its crate with the door closed for a few minutes. Take it out if it is calm and quiet. If it cries, make a noise to startle it, wait a few seconds, and then take it out. Never take it out when it is crying or barking. Always wait until it is calm so that it associates going out only when it is calm.
- Gradually increase the time he spends in his cage, both when you are away and when you are present in the house.
- Give him a treat every time you put him in his house. Make him sleep in his cage! Use it often during the day, even if you're home.
FOR SAFETY REASONS, NO REACTIVE DOGS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
If we don't know your dog, or if you've never taken a class here with them, we might ask you to come in so we can meet your dog before the activity. This is to ensure they'll work well in a group, that they'll be happy, and that both your dog and your child will enjoy their day together. If we feel your dog doesn't meet the prerequisites for the program, we'll suggest your child use one of our dogs or we'll refund your deposit.
For safety reasons, children with special needs are not accepted. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us for confirmation.
